PT Kirana Megatara Ships Indonesia's First EUDR-Compliant Rubber to Europe, Marking a Historic Milestone for the Rubber Industry

Medan, February 22, 2024 — PT Kirana Megatara, through its subsidiary PT Karini Utama, celebrated a historic milestone with the successful shipment of Indonesia's first EUDR-compliant natural rubber to Europe on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

The ceremony was held at the company's processing facility in Kemuja Village, Mendo Barat District, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, beginning with the departure of a truck carrying the first shipment of EUDR-compliant rubber from the factory.

The achievement makes PT Kirana Megatara the first rubber processing company in Indonesia—and one of the first globally—to successfully export rubber that complies with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), marking a significant step toward strengthening trade relations with the European market.

In her remarks, Kurniati Purba, Operations Director of PT Karini Utama, expressed her appreciation to everyone involved in reaching this important milestone.

"Today is not only a remarkable achievement for PT Karini Utama, PT Kirana Megatara, and Indonesia's rubber industry, but also an important milestone in our journey toward internationally recognized quality standards built upon environmental and social sustainability," she said.

Kurniati also extended her gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the project's success, including rubber farmers, farmer group leaders, suppliers, and the company's internal teams, all of whom worked together to ensure that the products met the stringent EUDR requirements.

"This achievement is the result of close collaboration and a strong commitment from every party involved," she added.

The inaugural shipment represents more than a single export transaction. It also marks the beginning of closer cooperation between Indonesia and the European market in the natural rubber sector. Compliance with EUDR is expected to expand market access, create new opportunities for industry participants, and reinforce Indonesia's position as one of the world's leading natural rubber producers.

Separately, Hendy Endarwan, Chief Operating Officer of PT Kirana Megatara, expressed confidence that the company would continue increasing shipments of EUDR-compliant rubber to Europe.

"We will continue encouraging all of our processing plants to maximize shipments of EUDR-compliant rubber. This reflects our commitment to strengthening relationships with a broader customer base, empowering rubber farmers, and continuously improving the quality of our rubber products while upholding sustainability principles," he said.

Meanwhile, Bambang Wijaya, Deputy Chief Marketing Officer of PT Kirana Megatara and project leader for the company's EUDR initiative, stated that the company would continue expanding its network of farmers who comply with EUDR requirements.

"This is tangible proof of our commitment to supporting farmers by ensuring that their rubber can continue to access the European market—and ultimately the global market," he said.

The historic event was attended by representatives of rubber farmers, suppliers, and key stakeholders from Indonesia's rubber industry. A luncheon was held following the ceremony to commemorate the company's landmark achievement.

The successful shipment demonstrates Indonesia's growing readiness to meet increasingly stringent international sustainability standards. As the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) approaches full implementation, initiatives such as this are expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian natural rubber in premium global markets while promoting greater transparency, traceability, and sustainable supply chains.
